E-learning is designed to enable people to learn at any time and from any location by utilizing information-related technologies, such as computers, the Internet, and electronic materials. 

 In addition to enhancing knowledge and developing skills, e-learning can supplement traditional classroom instruction.

Expert guidance, training, and resources are all included in e-learning modules.

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA  LEARNING RESOURCES    

National Digital Library  is the Gateway of all the resources developed and hosted by the following organizations

  • NPTEL:  (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning ) is an MHRD-sponsored project for hosting Online Video Resources and Courses @ FREE of COST. It hosts video lectures in the Engineering domain.  Videos of Lectures of university faculty and from IITs). They are also useful for GATE preparation.

  • INFLIBNET:  Theses of all Indian universities and synopses reports hosted under INFLIBNET's Shodhganga Repository

  • NCERT: English and Hindi books of different subjects for School students from primary to 12th standard.

  • KRISHIKOSH: Agriculture books, journals, articles, reports, etc

  • LIBRIVOX: Audiobooks helpful for visually challenged students. Librivox is a non-commercial, non-profit, and ad-free project. Copyright-free books available in the public domain are converted into audio in this project and the same audio books are again released to the public domain.

E-PG Pathshala

  • Covers the e-content in different subjects at the postgraduate level.  It is developed by UGC under the  MHRD`s  Project - National Mission on Education through ICT (NME-ICT).

  • Along with e-content, self-learning, and self-assessment programs are included in each module/topic/discipline 
  • The INFLIBNET Centre has developed a web-based interface called "Vidya-Mitra: Integrated e-Content Portal" for all e-content projects, developed/funded under the National Mission of Education through ICT  under NME-ICT project
  • The e-content is developed/is being developed in various subject disciplines (science, arts, engineering, social science, etc) through various Indian institutes/universities/colleges

Swayam

  • SWAYAM is a program initiated by the Government of India and designed in 4 quadrants – (1) video lecture, (2) specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts.
  • Are developed by the Nodal centers at IITs, NITs, IIIT, and universities
  • Provide remote access to labs in various science and engineering disciplines.
  • These Virtual Labs would cater to students at the undergraduate level, post graduate level as well as to research scholars.

        The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) was initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003. Five core disciplines were identified: civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and mechanical engineering, and 235 courses in web/video format were developed in this phase.

            Govt. of India approved a new program titled Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) in Higher Education aimed at tapping the talent pool of scientists and entrepreneurs, internationally to encourage their engagement with the institutes of Higher Education in India to augment the country's existing academic resources, accelerate the pace of quality reform, and elevate India's scientific and technological capacity to global excellence.
